Miscello. : M.S. CLXXXII (miscellaneous manuscripts), ca. 1630-1715.

A compendium of Italian ms. poetry and prose writings, many apparently associated with the academies of Ancona (ca. 1630-1685) and with the Accademia Arcadia, Rome (ca. 1691). Bound with it are miscellaneous documents deriving from various Vatican offices (especially the Congregation of the Fabric of St. Peter's and the Camera Apostolica) and mostly dating from 1691-1710. These include: copies of letters to monarchs; studies of the constitution of Vatican offices; homilies of Clement XI; papers relating to the Queen of Poland's visit to Italy (1699); and a lengthy report of Agostino Maria Taia (1699) on the use of the Vatican palace for a "nuova ecclesiastica Radunanza."

The Apostolic Camera, one of the most ancient of the offices of the Roman Curia, was originally responsible for the administration of the temporalities and revenues of the Holy See. Although the term Camera appeared for the first time in Benedict VIII's constitution Quoties illa a Nobis (24 May 1017), some authors state it was the continuation of an office that had existed and been known for a long time as palatium or fiscus under the direction of the archdeacon who remained at the ...
